I hugged my parents goodbye and was on my way.
On route to Frankfurt I met a UW-Madison student who will be traveling through France with her parents during the 2 weeks before school starts. We dialogued (to be honest it was a lot like talking) about school and traveling. She wanted cups to put over her ears to reduce the pressure change at take off and landing. The stewardess was so confused by the request that she brought the girl ear plugs instead and asked if they would do. They wouldn’t. The girl did an intentionally bad job of hiding a look that said, “What, like no one’s ever asked you for cups to put on their ears. You’re a stewardess.” In the end she chewed gum and I read her “Cosmopolitan.” I learned all about spinning like a top and back scratching. I started looking for a man to drive wild but then the plan landed. I wished her a happy trip and rushed off looking for a plane to Cairo.
I looked and looked but never did find that plane to Cairo. I did eventually come across a place called Kairo, and I figured if the city was anywhere near as cool as the name then it was good enough for me.

Awesome blog dude!
i think i understand perfectly well how little i know you.

you know… we’re rather close in time zones… it’d be nice to talk to someone that’s not just waking up when i’m going to sleep.
by the way, i’m going to have a blog up soon… sometime… this year… perhaps. and i know you are dying to know how i’m doing so i will briefly say that the horror stories are NOT true. i’m quite fine with the family. indeed, they’ve stated quite adorable things in french which i am unable to repeat as of yet, but shortly will be able to tell you appropriately. the countryside is beautiful here. a lot like wisconsin, but different trees, and different fields… and a different language. i’m getting to the point (with french) where i just loathe it. i want to speak english all of the time because i can. anyway. email me. aurora@spiny.com
Colie: I wrote you last night, but it did not go through. I’ll try again, but with less comment. When I started my very first job, as a social worker on the Ft. Totten Indian Reservation, my father suggested I keep a diary. I did not because I thought I had an infallible memory which would serve me well when I wrote my great American Novel. How wrong I was. I think these blogs are just the thing. Re: Spices – what an exotic subject to have on end, if one but knows enough, when conversation flags. Keep the photos coming. I like them all. Here are Asha and Jackson’s address: redlady118@hotmail.com/ drfefe2@netscape.net. I am off to the State Fair this pm with the list of PLACES TO EAT. Wish you were with me. I think I will try the chocolate covered marshmellows. Oh yes, subconscious is spelled subconscious. Good word which I learned and used for years after studying all about Freud in graduate school. He is a bit out of date now. Love you, Cole, lots of hugs, Gr’ma.
